Deck construction meets strict regulations
We are a fully professional and insured company and take great pride in creating top quality decks. All our designs meet and exceed strict building regulations to produce decks which feel solid and will be safe for children to use.

A wooden deck will last for many years if properly designed and constructed. Wood is a natural product, however, and will expand and contract when exposed to rain and the sun. Careful planning and attention to construction detail will ensure that many of the common problems found on other decks are avoided.

We select high grade timber, usually redwood, since it has excellent natural preservative properties. Another option is the use of pressure treated softwood. The timber is injected with a copper based preservative called Tanalin to prolong the life of the wood, and is an excellent alternative to the more expensive hardwoods. We fit the boards bark side down, since boards curl as they age, and if fixed upside down, form cups for water to sit in and cause rot.

Water is the main cause of premature decay in wooden decking. Wherever water collects, we use features to let the water escape and moisture evaporate.

Concrete footings are sloped so that water runs away and structural posts do not sit in puddles and rot.

We use only metal fittings which are heavily galvanised to prevent rust. Deck boards are screwed in place (not nailed) to stop warping and nails working loose as the wood ages. All screw holes are pre-drilled to protect the wood from splitting and to give a better finish. Details such as these mean that your deck will last longer and look better, and give many years trouble free service.
